Mari City: A Space to Come Home to Your Body

Hi, I’m Mari City, a Somatic Sex Educator based on the Gold Coast, working with clients in person and online worldwide, in English or Portuguese. I’m certified through the Institute of Somatic Sexology, and my path here didn’t start in a classroom. It started a long time before that.

Sexuality has been part of me since I was a child. I discovered my body with curiosity long before I had any language for what I was feeling, and along with that curiosity came guilt. Fear of being seen. A quiet belief that something so natural must be wrong. Nobody gave me the information I needed, so I spent years figuring it out on my own, reading everything I could find. Long before I had any certification, friends were already coming to me with their questions about sex and relationships. I began studying Psychology, though I didn’t finish the degree, then went on to complete Journalism, and later Physical Education. Each one shaped how I understand people, but the real education was happening underneath all of that, in the quiet, curious relationship I kept building with my own body.

A significant relationship in my life is where everything cracked open. There was betrayal, and it disconnected me from my body in ways I didn’t expect. I carried shame about my vulva, its shape, its scent, its appearance. I placed blame on parts of myself that had done nothing wrong. That period taught me how deeply the body absorbs what happens between two people, long before the mind catches up.

It also taught me something about pressure I didn’t expect to learn. I’ve seen, in my own life and in the couples I now support, how much unspoken pressure builds inside intimacy, around who’s responsible for whose pleasure, around performance, around timing, and how quickly a body will protect itself the moment it doesn’t feel safe enough to be fully present. It’s rarely about desire. It’s almost always about safety.

Looking back, I know that real tools, communicating desire clearly, naming boundaries, checking in honestly as needs and libido shift over years, would have changed things. Not necessarily the outcome, but the chance to find out honestly instead of drifting quietly apart.

That’s the work I offer now. I hold a safe, judgment-free space for people and couples to come into presence with their bodies, understand what their sensations are telling them, and build the kind of honest communication that desire and long-term intimacy actually require. My approach is holistic, body, mind, and the conversations that hold it all together, shaped by movement, breathwork, and guided exploration tailored to you.
